5 Easy Steps to Frizz-Free Summer Hair

Hair may be impossible to tame in the summer because of the hot temperatures and humidity, but we are here to help you say “frizzy hair” this summer. Glitter Guide Caylee Ashwell offers five tips to help keep your hair shiny and supple in any weather.

The high temperatures and high humidity in the summer can make life difficult even for the smoothest hair. It’s the season of the scratchy hairy enemies, but we’re here to bring your beauty routine for your best summer hairs back to life! While occasional Poofy Hair days are inevitable, keep them at bay by following some of our tips:

  1. Add a deep conditioner to your weekly routine. If you should take a tip, this is it! Frizz happens when the hair is dehydrated. It looks for moisture wherever it can get it (aka the sticky air on your morning walk to work). Soaked in a nutrient-rich deep conditioner ($ 16 Moroccan Oil Intensive Hydration Mask), your hair is less likely to seek hydration elsewhere.
  2. Reduce the water temperature. Cool off with the long, hot showers this summer. If water is too hot, it will wipe your hair of moisture and make your hair curl. A lukewarm temperature is the right way. Before you get off, shock your hair with a blast of super cold water. This seals the hair and prevents unwanted moisture from smuggling in.
  3. Take off the terry towel. If you wrap your hair in your towel after showering, that’s a huge faux pas. The material is too rough, which causes friction on your strands. Instead, opt for a soft jersey hair towel (Breezy Tee, $ 18.49). If you have an old cotton T-shirt lying around it works the same way!
  4. Broad comb and disentanglement. Wet hair is fragile and must be treated as such. Before combing, spray a leave-in conditioner (Briogeo Rosarco Milk, $ 20) through your ends to soften it. Then use a wide tooth comb (The Body Shop Detangling Comb, $ 7) to unravel your hair, working from the ends to the scalp. This prevents fractures and prepares hair for styling
  5. Invest in a professional hair dryer. All of the above will go out the door if you have a below average hair dryer. Trust us to spend a little more dough for a good, high-quality dryer will benefit you in the long run. A powerful motor helps to dry the hair faster and thus has less time under the heat! We trust Drybar’s Buttercup Blowdryer ($ 195) to keep our hair smooth and supple.
